A collaborative remix EP between ambient/electronic artist Daniel Ruane and free-jazz experimentalist James Wood.

Each performer took two tracks originally recorded by the other, and went to town on them. 

The results are contained on '001', their first EP together.

JAMES WOOD

James Wood is a musician from Hull, England, and he includes Eric Dolphy, Sarah Vaughan, Neutral Milk Hotel and Ivor Cutler among his influences. James also plays in the avant-garde pop band Crooks and Claridge from Huddersfield.

Wood’s remix work is a natural extension from the free-jazz influenced warm open spaces of his solo output. His remixes tend to deconstruct the source material and place it back together in the wrong order, or with bits missing and glued in place with a bass clarinet and distortion. 

DANIEL RUANE

The mutations and intense morphing of natural sonic environments heard in Daniel Ruane's music envelop the listener in alien soundscapes. As faded harmonic echoes of sounds vaguely reminiscent of organic life being crushed beneath the mechanistic aesthetics of driving rhythms can be heard, the listener is treated to an output inspired by the likes of Trentemoller, Headless Horseman and Bonobo amongst many others.

In contrast, a portion of Ruane's work tightropes the border of ambient/lighter styles of electronic music, leaving conventional beat and dance forms behind to generate a universe of ethereal textures heavily instructed by sci-fi concepts and other forms of media such as horror films/books - a primary influence of his output in general being video games and their soundtracks.

Also being an avid fan of remixing work, Daniel has released numerous re-workings of contemporaries and collaborators with a notable tendency to act with high disregard for the original pieces, creating new and unique re calibrations of the music.

Beginning experimentation in electronic music at the age of 19, the Manchester based artist has had a constant flow of releases, both vinyl and digital, from various parts of the globe. The style has evolved over this brief period to reflect the denser, darker, more percussive realms of electronic music and sonic manipulation.
